Welcome to Sailing Jollies

Sailing Jollies’ unique concept of turning charter companies’ one way needs into training and experience building trips, usually in the low season, has become one of the most successful and popular in the sailing world today.  We generally have a huge 65-70% repeat guest rate on every event, with so many returning year on year, some every April, May or October, creating a real ‘family’ feel to the Jollies.  Low season, ‘real sailing for real sailors’ attracts very good people, many of whom stay in touch for years to come and have been known to meet up independently, on land and at sea!  It’s true that your first Jolly will be the only one where you join on your own, from then on, you’re part of our fabulous group and will recognise faces every time.

Low season, mainly April & May, October & November, when conditions are wonderfully mixed, giving excellent training opportunities, harbours are far less crowded, prices more appealing and locals are always delighted to see us.  It’s a win-win for all, we charter the boats for an extended time, clients get very reasonable prices and any charter company is always happy to have their boats moved by high level sailors & clients.  The quality of instruction & teaching is of the highest level, at least on a par with that given by Yachtmaster Instructors.  Rich has 17 years’ combined language teaching & private tutoring background, and has been teaching sailing since 2010.  He has a foundation in RYA methodology, however his own unique and ‘realistic’ sailing teaching, geared up for chartering & boat ownership, is second to none and comes highly recommended across the sailing world.  People are always amazed & impressed with the tips and tricks they pick up and can take with them for life.

We take one or more boats at a time, the largest event is with 11 monohulls, the Omegasail fleet, which we move from Athens to Corfu in the spring, and back in the autumn.  Other companies’ yachts may need to go between Athens & Rhodes, or Skiathos, and other one way, seasonal routes, such as between Canaries & Balearics, can also be considered.

You can join us, either by the cabin or by taking your own charter bareboat within the event, once suitably qualified & experienced.  Beginners welcome on our easier routes eg Corfu to Kefalonia, training & guidance is always on offer to new or experienced sailors alike.  We like people to take a steady approach, not to run before you can walk, build up your experience step by step along your journey to becoming a competent, smooth, refined Skipper, Mate or Crew Member.

One way routes feature on most of our key events, but we also have round trips, an easier way for first time Skippers or new sailors to get used to it all with us, before next taking on the more challenging trips.

Low season means great prices, no crowds and a great mix of weather.

Most join for some training and confidence building, but equally you may just relax and enjoy sailing to beautiful destinations every day!

Ways to join us

By the cabin

Book a cabin on one of our larger boats with a professional or established Skipper. Join other like-minded people, all there for the right balance of sailing, seeing beaufiul places and the social side. Make new sailing friends for life and pick up many tips & tricks along the way.

Your own bareboat group

If suitably qualified & experienced, you may bring your own group and take one of the 6 yachts we make available to bareboat charter parties within the events. Minimum Day Skipper (with ICC) but you’ll need at least 2,000 miles and 4+ weeks of experience under your belt.

Professional Organisations - Be our Guest

If you run professional sailing trips yourself or are a sailing school, you may be invited to join us by taking one of our boats and selling the places to your own clients.
Nobody can book onto a Jolly without first speaking to Rich on the phone. Think of it as a friendly introduction chat, however it is important for everyone on board that we don’t get square pegs in round holes, so you can go forward confidently knowing that Rich will have had ‘the chat’ with everyone else on the event too. Prepare all your questions and have a pen and paper ready!
